Context and Objectives

 This contemporary apartment kitchen was designed to create a bright, functional space that maximised the available footprint while maintaining a clean and minimalist aesthetic. The brief was to design a highly functional kitchen within a compact open-plan space while enhancing the sense of light and openness. With limited room available, it was important to carefully balance storage, preparation areas, and visual simplicity to ensure the kitchen felt spacious rather than confined. 

Design and Functionality  

A refined palette of soft grey and white cabinetry and subtle neutral finishes creates a calm and contemporary atmosphere. The Made for Living team designed the space using cabinetry with integrated curved handles to enhance the streamlined aesthetic, allowing the kitchen to maintain clean architectural lines while providing generous storage. 

The overhead cabinetry was carefully positioned to provide essential storage while maintaining an open feel throughout the space. Open shelving introduces warmth and personality, offering an opportunity to display decorative items and everyday essentials while breaking up the cabinetry for a lighter visual effect. The extended island bench creates a practical focal point, providing additional preparation space and a casual dining area that encourages connection between the kitchen and living spaces. Integrated appliances and concealed storage help maintain the kitchen’s uncluttered appearance, while pendant lighting above the island adds warmth and creates a welcoming feature within the open-plan layout.

Execution and Impact

 The completed kitchen is a sophisticated and functional space that makes the most of its compact layout. Through thoughtful planning, streamlined cabinetry, and a light neutral palette, the design achieves a sense of openness while delivering the storage and functionality required for modern living. The result is a timeless kitchen that feels calm, inviting, and seamlessly integrated with the home’s interior.
