Paddington Project
Context and Objectives
This Paddington project was an exciting opportunity, with clients open to incorporating colour and natural materials throughout their home. The brief required a dual focus: the design of a functional kitchen and the integration of a wardrobe system near the entrance. This entry zone needed to provide generous storage along with practical seating for ease when arriving home or preparing to leave.
The main challenge was to ensure both the kitchen and entrance joinery felt like a seamless extension of the home, rather than separate elements. The design needed to carefully integrate existing architectural features such as ceiling, flooring, and wall details to achieve a cohesive and considered overall aesthetic.
Design and Functionality
The kitchen was anchored by a central island featuring an engineered stone benchtop paired with a light timber base, creating a warm and natural focal point. The surrounding cabinetry was designed with a refined, striking presence while maintaining functionality through integrated appliances including a fridge and dishwasher. A Bora downdraft cooktop was incorporated to maintain clean sightlines, complemented by overhead wooden cabinetry that added warmth and texture to the space.
In the entry zone, custom wardrobes were designed to mirror the kitchen’s colour palette for visual continuity. A built-in timber bench seat was integrated to provide a practical and comfortable space for putting on or removing shoes, as well as offering a relaxed moment to enjoy the adjacent window outlook.
Execution and Impact
The completed design delivers a cohesive and harmonious home environment where kitchen and entry joinery feel intentionally connected. The balance of natural timber, engineered stone, and integrated storage solutions creates a warm, functional, and visually unified space that enhances everyday living while celebrating the home’s architectural features.
